“That awful Lady Blue is gone?” Vixen looked from the great white stag to her mate, Fox.
“I believe so,” the stag nodded, “her mate’s death was too painful for her to stay here.”
“Well, it may have been painful for her but we’re better off without the both of them.”
“You’re right, Vixen,” Fox agreed, “we all lost ones we loved because of Scarface and Lady Blue, with both of them gone, we can finally have a peaceful home.”
Fox’s daughter, Charmer, who had been listening to the conversation, stepped out of the fox den and moved toward her father. “If only Bold could be here.”
Vixen’s head dropped momentarily. “At the very least we have Whisper and her future cubs, Bold’s grandchildren.”
“It is something to be grateful for,” the stag said with his deep and steady voice, “this is a time for new beginnings, and this is not a time to mourn the past.”
“Thank you for all the help you’ve given us.” Fox stood in front of the two vixens, looking up at the tall stag.
“It is my duty here.” The stag bowed slightly, “now, I must return to my herd. I will need to visit the river along the way.”
Fox nodded as the stag retreated from their land. “At least,” he said to the vixens, “it’ll be better for all of us now.”
“And it’s spring!” Charmer laughed.

Spike, the brown rat, discovered the body by the river that same day. He and the other rats had been waiting for an opportunity like this; the stag had been the only obstacle in their plans.
“What’s going to stop us making this our patch from now on?” Bully, the leader of the rats, had asked his fellow rats, at the discovery of the stag.
The rats were ruthless, and impatient from waiting, as far as they were concerned there was no way to stop them now.
The river was poisoned, the rats knew this, but, as part of their plan, didn’t tell any other animal about the contaminated water. They wouldn’t have told anyone even if they had no plans, they believed that all other animals were below them.
The Farthing Wood animals didn’t know what was coming.
Expect the Land Before Time and Pirates of the Caribbean fics to be up in the next few days.
