LeChuck narrowed his dark eyes at the young woman. “Who were ye with?”
“I don’t understand,” Minnie took a step towards the pirate, “who do you mean?”
“I mean a man!” LeChuck snapped, grabbing her by the arm. “Ye were with another man!”
“No, no, it’s not what you think!” Minnie, starting to panic, stepped right up to LeChuck. Her eyes were beginning to water, and her vision became slightly fuzzy.
“Ye explain then, lass,” The pirate loosened his grip on her arm. “I ‘ear that ye were with another man, this be true or not?”
“I was with a man.” LeChuck growled but Minnie continued quickly, “but he was just a friend, I talked to him and that’s all.”
“Ye did nothin’ else?”
“Nothing at all,” LeChuck let go of her arm and she took this opportunity to wrap her arms around him. “I only love you.”
LeChuck didn’t hug her back. “’ow do I know ye ain’t lyin’?”
Minnie breathed slowly; she desperately wanted to resolve the situation. “I love you, I couldn’t possibly care for anyone the way I care for you.”
“It wouldn’t ‘ave to be love,” the pirate said, though Minnie didn’t entirely understand what he meant. “I don’t know what to do with ye, Minnie.”
“You’ll still marry me, won’t you?” Minnie asked, revealing something she worried about every time she argued with LeChuck.
LeChuck paused, pondering what she had asked. He wondered if he’d overreacted, after all, he needed to be with her otherwise he wouldn’t have a chance of getting the Goodsoup diamond. He’d tried to be as calm as possible, but the idea of people thinking that his woman was having an affair, that he was the type of man who couldn’t keep a woman – it had sent him into a rage. He sighed, trying to fight his angry feelings, and wrapped his arms around Minnie. “Of course I’ll marry ye, silly lass, I love ye.”
Minnie beamed, laying her head against his chest. “It’s only a few days until our wedding now.”
“Aye, it is,” LeChuck stroked her hair slowly; his mind wandering away as he mentally ran through his plans for their wedding rehearsal.
