Angus nervously descended the stairs into the bar, he’d assumed it’d been closed when he hadn’t heard any noise coming from the hatch. His desperation for a drink, however, prompted him to investigate further and on closer inspection realised that the bar was indeed open and actually had some customers inside.
“Ahoy there,” the bartender called as Angus was halfway down the stairs, “Don’t be shy, lad, you want a drink or not?”
Angus took a second to scan the bar, noting an old dusty piano, a passed out drunk, a selection of dirty glasses strewn on the bar and another man sat at the bar with his body hunched and head down.
“Well?” the bartender asked impatiently, cleaning a dirty glass with an equally dirty rag.
“Grog.” Angus replied sharply, taking a seat at the bar and leaning on his elbows.
“Fine.” The bartender sighed and leaned under the bar to pick up a new glass. It was only now that Angus had realised something odd, the bartender had been making quick glances at the slouched man every few seconds since Angus had arrived. Angus, after receiving his drink, took a few glances at the man himself but didn’t notice anything particularly strange about him, although the man was a little on the short side, something he thought he could make fun of later.
“What are you looking at?” the man spoke suddenly causing Angus to jolt forward and nearly lose his balance on the stool.
“Nothin’” Angus replied grouchily.
The man narrowed his dark eyes in return and snorted, turning back to his drink. “Better be nothing,” he muttered just loud enough for Angus to hear.
“What did you say?” Angus growled, he didn’t like the attitude he was getting at all.
The man suddenly sat up straight, looking Angus in the eye. “Do you know who you’re talking to?” he snarled.
The bartender had stopped cleaning glasses and was stood frozen, looking at Angus nervously. “I think you should calm down”.
“Shut up!” the man snapped at him, “He comes down here and starts talking like that to me, he can’t back out now”.
“Who are you, anyway?” Angus sighed; he’d heard the ‘do you know who I am?’ speech too many times.
“I’m Largo LaGrande!” he snapped back, “Former right-hand man of LeChuck and current boss of this island”.
Angus reeled slightly but his pirate instincts still encouraged him to fight. “So what? Scabb Island is just a tiny defenceless island; even the girliest pirate in the Caribbean could rule this place”.
Unfortunately, Angus had severely underestimated both how fast Largo could throw a punch and just how much he enjoyed throwing them. The next thing he knew, he was on the floor desperately trying to stem the blood from his nose and wondering how the hell Largo had managed to get in so many punches without him being able to respond.
Largo stood over him triumphantly, a wide smirk on his face. “Normally, I wouldn’t let anyone leave but there’s no way I’m letting such a pathetic pirate live on my island. You’ll be gone by tomorrow or I’m going to find you and I’m going to break every bone in your fucking body”.
Largo had left the bar before Angus could even stand up again, blood still covering his face. He left Scabb Island that night.

“You,” Largo hissed through gritted teeth, “I remember you.”
“I think you have me confused with someone else.” Angus tried to keep a steady tone but he couldn’t control a faint shake in his hands.
“I kicked you off Scabb Island.” Largo clearly wasn’t fooled.
“I stayed off didn’t I?” Angus laughed nervously, “why bother with me now?”
“Well...whatever your name is...”
“It’s Angus.”
“I don’t care,” Largo snorted, “your day isn’t going to well, you see, you’ve caught me in a bad mood.”
“It’s not my fault.”
“I don’t care,” Largo narrowed his eyes, “you don’t learn very fast, do you?”
“Well...what are you goin' to do?” Angus gripped the handle of his cutlass, threatening to draw it, “I’ll fight you if I have to.”
Largo just shrugged, “you’ll lose...and die.”
“You’re just words.”
“I wasn’t last time.”
Angus took a steadying breath and pulled at his cutlass slightly. Largo, in response, growled and clenched his fists which caused Angus to immediately recoil and, turning frantically, take off running in the opposite direction.
“Spineless bastard," Largo muttered as he watched Angus run away.
